There’s nothing perhaps a man hates more than the first signs of baldness and he’ll do everything he possibly can to find out how to stop a receding hairline. Somehow, with most men, hair seems to be indicative of their youth and virility and the first hint of loss of hair seems to herald in the feeling of ageing. In many men, receding hairlines could cause a lot of emotional, mental and psychological problems. This is why perhaps when it comes to treatment receding hairline conditions in men take top priority.

Can you regrow thinning hair?

This is the first concern when it comes to hair that starts thinning and receding from the hairline. First of all, let us look at why hair thins and why hairlines recede. For most of us, hair keeps growing at the rate of approximately 7” a year. Hair is actually just a string of dead cells that are pushed out through the hair follicles. As one grows older, hair naturally thins and this is due to the fact that the activity in the hair follicle declines. As time goes by, the hair follicles in certain parts of the head go into a resting state, also referred to as a telogenic state. This condition is called involutional alopecia and one can see the hairs on the head growing fewer and not growing as quickly. What most men go through is called androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness where the hair follicles in certain parts of the scalp just shrink and there’s no more hair that grows out of them.

When does hair start receding?

For most men it begins in their 40s though some men have a hereditary trait to grow bald early, maybe even in their twenties, in certain rare cases, even in their teens. As hair thins, the male pattern baldness syndrome kicks in for many men and the hair above the temples stop growing and the hairline recedes. The hair on the centre of the scalp too begins to thin leaving the scalp exposed. In most cases, the age at which this happens is inherited but in some instances, stress or illness can aggravate and hasten the process. Medication and hormonal treatment can also affect hair growth and very often, the hair fall is bad, with no new hair growing.
